Puducherry [India], July 16 (ANI): The Directorate of School Education on Tuesday said that all schools in Puducherry will remain closed on Wednesday, July 17, on the occasion of Muharram.
“All schools in Puducherry to remain closed tomorrow (17th July) on the occasion of Muharram,” said the Directorate of School Education.
Muharram holds significant religious importance for Shia Muslims. In India, the 7-8 crore Shia Muslim community, along with people of different religions, participate in large processions and tazias.
Earlier in June, the All India Shia Personal Law Board wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and urged him to ensure better arrangements for the upcoming Muharram procession.
The board urged the Prime Minister to ensure security arrangements on the routes determined by the state governments so that untrue elements cannot disturb the law and order.(ANI)
