Yamunanagar (Haryana) [India], September 7 (ANI): Congress MLA Bishan Lal Saini expressed happiness for receiving a ticket for his candidature from the Radaur assembly seat and said that he will carry forward the development works in Radaur and that the party will sweep victory.
“I am very happy that my name is there in the list (for Haryana Assembly polls). Receiving a ticket is not an easy thing. I got the ticket, and I am very happy. I believe we will win by more seats. We will carry forward the development works in Radaur,” said Bishan Lal Saini.
Meanwhile, in a big boost to Congress, Olympian wrestlers Bajrang Punia and Vinesh Phogat joined the Congress on Friday.
Congress has fielded former wrestler Vinesh Phogat from Julana assembly seat in Haryana. The party released its first list of 31 candidates for Haryana polls, which also contained Vinesh Phogat’s name.
Punia and Phogat joined the party in the presence of Congress general secretary KC Venugopal, party leader Pawan Khera, Haryana Congress chief Udai Bhan, and Babaria.
Vinesh Phogat recalled women wrestlers’ fight over sexual harassment allegations against former BJP MP and former WFI chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh.
“The fight is continuing, it hasn’t ended yet. It’s in court. We will win that fight as well. With the new platform that we are getting today, we will work for the service of the nation,” she said.
The two well-known wrestlers joined the Congress almost a month before the Haryana assembly polls.
Polling for the 90-member Haryana assembly will be held on October 5, and votes will be counted on October 8.
The wrestlers resigned from their respective positions in Northern Railways on Friday.
In response to Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia’s decision to join Congress, Haryana BJP president Mohan Lal Badoli said on Saturday that players are the pride of our country and that the party does not do politics on them.
“Players are the pride of our country. We don’t do politics on them. They will work as members of Congress after joining,” the Haryana BJP president told ANI.
Punia won bronze at the Tokyo Olympics, while Vinesh Phogat became the first woman wrestler to reach the Olympics final.
Earlier on Friday, a crucial meeting of the Central Election Committee (CEC) of the Congress party in the run-up to the Haryana Assembly elections commenced at AICC headquarters in Delhi.
The meeting was chaired by Indian National Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and was attended by Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Congress General Secretary (Organisations) KC Venugopal, among others. After the meeting the Congress released its first list of 31 candidates.
Voting for the 90-member legislative assembly in Haryana will be held on October 5, with the last date for filing nominations being September 12. Votes will be counted on October 8. (ANI)
