New Delhi [India], October 19 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Narayanasa Bhandage has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging him to invite Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) members to participate in the upcoming 77th Republic Day parade on January 26, 2026.
In a letter dated October 17, the Rajya Sabha MP wrote, “I believe this gesture would be a fitting tribute to the RSS’s precious contributions to our motherland Bharathi. It was really appreciable on your part, Government of India, unveiling coins and stamps of RSS as an organisation celebrating the 100th year of its foundation since 1925.”
Bhandage praised the RSS for its contribution to the betterment of India while commending its promotion of social unity and commitment to national development.
“For a century, RSS has been nurturing nationalism, promoting social unity and working tirelessly for the betterment of our great nation. Their selfless service, commitment to national development, and unwavering dedication to our cultural heritage are truly commendable,” the letter read.
“Inviting RSS swayamsevaks to participate in the Republic Day parade would not only honour their organisation but also acknowledge the countless unsung heroes who have worked behind the scenes for our nation’s progress,” it added.
This request from BJP MP Bhandage comes amid chaos over reports of a Karnataka officer being suspended for allegedly attending a RSS event.
The tensions are mounting in the political circles as BJP leaders criticise the Karnataka government over statements given by Congress leader Priyank Kharge, who is also the state Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister, demanding a ban on RSS activities in government schools, colleges, and state-owned temples.
Kharge earlier accused the RSS of “brainwashing young minds” and promoting a “philosophy against the Constitution”.
Kharge on Sunday strongly criticised the BJP MPs for defending a Karnataka government officer suspended over alleged RSS participation.
In a post on X, Priyanka Kharge highlighted the rules and responsibilities of government servants.
“Hmmmmm…… interesting that BJP MPs are coming forward and defending people who are defying the service conduct rules laid down by the State Govt. This itself proves my point. Anyway the rules states. “No Government Servant shall be a member of, or be otherwise associated with, any political party or any organization which takes part in politics nor shall he take part in, subscribe in aid of, or assist in any other manner, any political movement or activity,” Kharge wrote.
Meanwhile, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah launched an attack against the RSS, highlighting the organisation’s opposition to Dr BR Ambedkar and the Constitution. He accused the BJP and the Sangh of spreading misinformation about Babasaheb Ambedkar.
Sharing excerpts of his address at the Silver Jubilee celebration of Mysore University and the inauguration of the new Knowledge Vision Building, Siddaramaiah posted on X, “The Sangh Parivar and RSS members opposed Ambedkar’s Constitution in the past and continue to oppose it even now. Therefore, one must remain cautious about them.”
“Keep the company of those who stand for society. Do not associate with those who oppose societal change or with Sanatanis,” he said.
On Wednesday, Siddaramaiah stated that his government has taken action to restrict RSS activities and take appropriate steps if required, asserting that “no organisation should disturb people in public places”.
Speaking to reporters in Hassan earlier, Siddaramaiah said, “No organisation should disturb people in public places. Action has been taken in Tamil Nadu. We will examine it and take further action.” His remarks came in response to questions about a proposal to impose restrictions on the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) in the state.
On the sacred occasion of Vijayadashami, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh marked its centenary with grand celebrations in Nagpur and other parts of the country. (ANI)
