Raghopur (Bihar) [India], October 12 (ANI): Jan Suraaj Party Founder Prashant Kishor on Saturday addressed a gathering in Raghopur, Bihar, emphasising the need for a new political alternative in the state.
Speaking with ANI, he stated that the existing leaders have become complacent due to the lack of viable alternatives, resulting in a lack of accountability. Prashant Kishor highlighted that the Jan Suraaj Party presents a new option for the people of Bihar, and he believes that the public will be vigilant this time.
Kishor said, “The leaders who are winning don’t have the fear that if they don’t work, the public won’t vote for them. Because, due to the lack of alternatives, people have been voting for Lalu Prasad Yadav and the BJP. Now, a new system of Jan Suraaj has been established, a new option has emerged, and we believe that the people of Bihar will be vigilant this time.”
He noted that a desire for change is visible across Bihar, driven by the realisation that despite voting for leaders, there has been no improvement in people’s conditions, urging the people to vote for themselves and their children, emphasising that this is the only way to bring about real change.
“The desire for change that has been visible across Bihar over the past three years is evident here as well, and the issue is the same. Leaders have gained power through the votes of the people. People have voted in the name of caste, religion, for drains, streets, for five kilos of grain, for temples, mosques. The leader who received votes became powerful, but there has been no change in people’s conditions,” he said.
Kishor added, “We are saying the same thing that until you people vote for yourselves and for your children, no one will get any relief.”
Regarding his own candidature from Raghopur, Kishor said, “If I have to contest from Raghopur, the people of Raghopur will have to stand with me. And whatever I’ve seen and understood today, I’ll present it at the party meeting tomorrow (today). In a day or two, we’ll know who’s contesting,” he said.
Kishor strongly criticised what he called the politics of “sharing corruption” rather than seat-sharing, a fight over who will “loot more, who will become a minister, who will get more contracts.”
He added that such battles will continue as long as voters allow leaders to buy support with caste appeals or small cash and ration promises. “Some will sell themselves out in the name of caste, some will become Hindus or Muslims, some will vote for five kilograms of grain, some for five hundred rupees,” Kishor said.
Furthermore, Kishor gave a clear message to the people of Bihar who vote for those who practice corruption. He said, “…Then be prepared to live under this system for the next five years. Then don’t blame anyone. Then don’t say there’s a lot of corruption in Bihar because you voted for the corrupt. So, under any circumstances, you must remove those who have committed corruption. If you don’t, be prepared to live in this miserable condition.”
Assembly elections in Bihar are scheduled to take place on November 6 and November 11, with votes to be counted on November 14.
The Raghopur assembly constituency, situated in Vaishali district of the state, is one of the key assembly constituencies with a rich history, as key leaders like Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) supremo and former Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav, his wife Rabri Devi, and their son Tejashwi Yadav have represented the seat.
Lalu Prasad Yadav won the seat twice, while Rabri Devi secured it three times, serving as Chief Minister on both occasions. Tejashwi Yadav has held the seat twice, in 2015 and 2020, and has served as Deputy CM and Leader of Opposition. (ANI)
